Eureka College sets homecoming events

Free steel drum band concert to cap off activities

 

Eureka College’s homecoming, with the theme “Time Warp,” will take place Oct. 4 through 10. Capping off activities will be a free public performance by steel drum band OD TAPO IMI from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Rinker Open Air Theatre.


Other activities that are open to the public are:

 

Sunday, Oct. 4
A panel-painting competition will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. on the lawn at Burgess Memorial Hall.

Monday, Oct. 5
The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Westminster College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at the soccer complex on Reagan Drive.

 

Wednesday, Oct.7
At 9 p.m. a chant and skit competition will take place at the Cerf Center. It will be followed by a torch-light parade that will begin at Burgess Memorial Hall and culminate on the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house lawn on Reagan Drive, where a bonfire will be held.

 

Thursday, Oct. 8
The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Spalding University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at the soccer complex on Reagan Drive. At 8 p.m. a talent competition featuring emcee comedian Michael Palasck will take place at the Cerf Center.

 

Friday, Oct. 9
Melick Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Homecoming convocation will be at 10 a.m. at the Cerf Center, where the homecoming royal court will be announced. Competitive games will begin at 1 p.m. behind Reagan Physical Education Center. An Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cerf Center. A pep rally, “Homecoming Happening,” will be at 9 p.m. at Reagan Center.

 

Saturday, Oct. 10
Homecoming Day festivities will begin with a reception for theater alumni from 9 a.m. to noon at Pritchard Theatre. Melick Library will continue its book sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The homecoming parade, with associate dean of students Shari Rich as grand marshal, will step off from downtown Eureka at 10 a.m. and can be viewed from College Avenue on campus. A brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dickinson Commons. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 through 12. Former Eureka College football players will reunite to play a flag football game at 11:30 a.m. on the practice field behind Reagan Center. Registration is required by calling (877) 892 7823. An alumni hospitality tent with activities for children will open at noon at McKinzie Field.

 

The Eureka College Red Devils will face the Westminster College Blue Jays at 1 p.m. at McKinzie Field. A pre-game ceremony will recognize the 2009 alumni award-winners and will feature a performance of a newly discovered Eureka College fight song from the 1930s titled “Eureka Loyalty.” Half-time will include introduction of homecoming royalty and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.

 

Homecoming will end with a free performance by steel drum band OD TAPO IMI and a barbecue dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rinker Open Air Theatre. Lawn chairs are welcome. In case of inclement weather, the event will be at the Cerf Center. Cost of the dinner will be $8 and $5 for children ages 4 through 12.
