Lambda Chi Alpha food drive to benefit Eureka Area Food Pantry
november 7
Members of the Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity at Eureka College will collect canned food in a door-to-door drive in Eureka Nov. 7. The food will be donated to the Eureka Area Food Pantry.
Fraternity members will deliver empty paper bags donated by Eureka IGA and letters explaining the project to approximately 350 homes on Oct. 25, said fraternity spokesman Michael McComas of Bloomington. They will return Nov. 7 to pick up filled bags. Empty bags also are available for residents to pick up in the Cerf Center on campus. Items that especially are needed include canned vegetables, canned fruits, soups, baking mixes, canned juices and cereals, McComas said.
The drive will be part of the North American Food Drive project sponsored by more than 220 Lambda Chi Alpha chapters throughout the United States and Canada every fall since 1993. Last year’s event netted more than 2.5 million pounds of food, McComas said.
