Eureka College Community Chorale announces August auditions
August 14 & 21 - on Campus
Area singers are invited to audition for the Eureka College Community Chorale’s fall 2008 season. Auditions will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 in McCallister Hall in the Chapel at Eureka College. To arrange for an audition, or for more information, contact chorale director Dr. Joseph Henry at (309) 467-6397 or jdhenry@eureka.edu.
The audition will consist of tonal memory exercises, music reading, vocal exercises and an optional prepared piece. Those auditioning should have prior choral experience and some music reading ability, Henry said.
Rehearsals will be in McCallister Hall from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Aug. 28. Rehearsals will culminate in a performance including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Credo Mass” and Giacomo Puccini’s “Gloria” at 4 p.m. Nov. 9 in Becker Auditorium in the Cerf Center at Eureka College.
The chorale was re-instituted last fall after a 10-year absence. Henry first directed a community chorale in the early 1990s when he first began teaching at Eureka College. Open also to Eureka College students, faculty and staff, the chorale consists of approximately 25 to 40 members and provides an opportunity to aspire to musical excellence in the performance of choral music masterworks, Henry said.
“The Eureka College Community Chorale is a growing choral organization looking for experienced singers in all voice parts to join this dynamic musical group, which is looking forward to celebrating its second season,” Henry said.
