African children subject of Eureka College art show
April 18 - May 3 - burgess Hall art gallery
Eureka College senior Nicholas Easley of Belvidere will present paintings of African children in an exhibit titled “Conflict” April 18-May 3 in the Burgess Hall Art Gallery at Eureka College. An opening reception will be from
4-7 p.m. April 18. The public is welcome.
Easley’s approximately one dozen acrylic paintings will represent different forms that conflict can take, Easley said. “The subjects mostly are children whom I have lived and worked with in Africa who are caught in political and social conflict,” Easley said. “The works also are representative of my own internal conflict, which is my motivation for life.”
Easley, a Ronald Reagan Fellow at Eureka College, has performed internships in Africa and has created a non-profit company that supports Ugandan women by selling jewelry that they make.
The college’s art gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and other times by appointment. For more information, contact the art department at 467-6866.
