Eureka College names director of athletics
Paul Bryant takes helm
Paul Bryant of Eureka, formerly of Trotwood, Ohio, began duties as director of athletics at Eureka College on May 1. Bryant is responsible for all aspects of the college’s athletics program, including administering the program in accordance with NCAA and St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference guidelines and hiring coaches, trainers and athletics department administrative staff. He will work with the college’s development and alumni office to plan alumni and fund-raising events.
Bryant formerly was associate director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach at Urbana University, Urbana, Ohio, for five years. He also coached basketball at Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio, where he was the executive director of that community’s Learn to Lead youth services agency for eight years.
Bryant earned a bachelor’s degree from Alaska Pacific University and a master of education degree from Urbana University. He is completing doctoral studies at Walden University. He is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Black Coaches and Administrators.
Bryant said that he wants to provide opportunities for student athletes to achieve at the highest levels in the classroom and on the playing fields and to experience personal growth.
“My focus within the athletics department is finding ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things,” Bryant said. “My quality coaching staff, trainers, equipment managers and administrators will understand what it takes to operate a great program. In turn, when you build a great program, the best people have a way of finding your program.”
Bryant said that an athletics department is a unifying force in the campus community and a catalyst for creating pride and support among external constituencies.
Bryant replaces Sandra Schuster, who was athletic director for four years and who also was head women’s basketball coach for 16 years.
