Eureka College receives national recognition for
successful St. Jude fundraiser
EC rookie of the year and program of the year
Eureka College received two awards at the 2008 St. Jude Collegiate Leadership Seminar held June 12 - 15 in Memphis, Tenn. The seminar was open to colleges and universities that had raised at least $25,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital last year and those that will hold their first fundraisers for St. Jude this year. Approximately 800 participants representing 260 schools from 48 states attended.
Eureka College received the Rookie of the Year Award for its first St. Jude fundraiser, which raised more than $25,000 and culminated in an Up ‘til Dawn event held Feb. 22. The college also was recognized with the Program of the Year Award among schools in Region 13, which includes Bradley University, Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University, University of Illinois and others.
“It was a great feeling to be recognized among so many other schools, many of which are 30 times our size,” said Eureka College Director of Residence Life Lisa Fischer. Attending the seminar with Fischer were students Lindsay Lamberson of Pekin and Bryce Swanson of Maroa.
Other students who helped organize the EC fundraiser as part of the Up ‘til Dawn Executive Board are Casey Grant and Kayla Doering, both of Chillicothe; Jacquelyn McCauley, Mendota; Elizabeth Hoff, Hendrum, Minn.; Mary Garbett, Georgetown, Ohio; and Kathryn Dieterle, Golden.
