Classical guitarist to perform at Eureka College

Award-winning classical guitarist Petar Jankovic will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Cerf Center at Eureka College.
Jankovic is a faculty member and coordinator of the guitar department at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Since starting his musical career in 1985, he has performed and taught master classes in Europe and the United States. He performs more than 30 concerts annually and has won numerous awards, including bronze medals at both the M.M. Ponce international guitar competition in Mexico City and the H.R.H. Princess Cristina international guitar competition in Madrid, Spain.
Jankovic’s 2008 CD “Leyenda” features works by Villa-Lobos, Albeniz, Tansman, Granados, Dyens and Merlin. His 2002 CD titled “Bogdanovic, Brouwer, Dyens” includes works by prominent living classical guitar composers. His 1998 CD “Romantico” explores the sounds of the romantic Spanish and Latino-American world and features his interpretations of pieces by Albeniz, Torrobba, Pipo, Piazzolla and Ponce.
Jankovic began guitar studies at age eight in his native Yugoslavia, where he received two gold medals at the national music competition. At 16 he delivered his first professional performance, and by age 20 he was teaching at the Belgrade community college. He received a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar from Belgrade Music Academy and an artist diploma and a master’s degree, both from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In addition, he developed a guitar program at Franklin College, Franklin, Ind.
