New VP to begin work june 1

Eureka College has appointed Michael Murtagh of Dubuque, Iowa, as vice president for development effective June 1. Murtagh formerly was executive director of development at Loras College, Dubuque.

“Michael Murtagh has been very successful as a philanthropy professional throughout his career,” said Eureka College President J. David Arnold. “He has a reputation as a development officer who achieves measureable results through diligence and dedication.”

At Loras College, Murtagh oversaw the completion of a capital campaign and coordinated strategic planning for an upcoming capital campaign that will be the largest fundraising effort in the college’s history.

At Eureka College, Murtagh will oversee “The Moment is Now…the Annual Fund for Eureka College,” and he will lead efforts to support the renovation of Vennum-Binkley Science Hall. He also will work to further engage alumni “so that they continue to feel that Eureka College is their special place,” he said.

“I am thrilled to join the Eureka College community, and I am sold on the vision that President Arnold has that will move the college forward to become the best version of itself,” Murtagh said.

Murtagh formerly was senior director of marketing and development at Leukemia Research Foundation, Glenview; director of development, admissions and alumni relations at Rita of Cascia High School, Chicago; and director of government sales for Dartnell Corporation, Chicago. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy for 20 years.

The Commack, N.Y., native received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.
