Indiana, Oregon Residents Receive Ministry Fellowships

full-tuition, four-year scholarshiips

Rachel Tapp of Indianapolis and Zane Ridings of Salem, Ore., have received Ministry Fellowships to attend Eureka College this fall.

The full-tuition, four-year scholarships are based on academic achievement, leadership and a desire to enter the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Eureka is among 17 colleges and universities affiliated with the Christian Church. The fellowship includes two mentorships with ministries related to the Christian Church. The program pays for the costs associated with the mentorships.

Tapp and Ridings both will major in philosophy and religion, and both plan to become ministers.

Tapp is a daughter of Toby and Katherine Tapp of Indianapolis. She is a 2009 graduate of North Central High School, where she participated in the Eco Impact environmental club and the PEERS and Best Buddies student mentoring programs. She is a member of Allisonville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she participates in the choir, the youth group, regional and national youth events and mission trips.

Ridings is a son of Jon and Shari Ridings of Salem. He attends South Salem High School, where he is a member of technical crews for theater productions and performs with an improvisational comedy troupe. He is a volunteer producer at CCTV community television station. He is a food service supervisor at a retirement home, where he organized a group that knits items for charities. He is a member of Salem First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he is active in local and regional events, including camps and retreats.

“Eureka College is pleased to welcome Rachel and Zane to this ministry program,” said Eureka College Chaplain Bruce Fowlkes. “They have made leadership and service to the church their personal goals, and they will be wonderful additions to the Eureka College campus and the Eureka community.”

Eureka College was chartered in 1855 by anti-slavery activists affiliated with the Christian Church. It offers bachelor’s degrees in the sciences, mathematics, business administration, social sciences, fine and performing arts, humanities and education.
