Eureka College senior’s art show to feature great inventions of the past
April 30 - May 8
Eureka College student Melissa Wessels of Waterman will present her senior art show titled “New Idea” April 23 through May 8 in the Burgess Hall Art Gallery at Eureka College. An artist’s reception will be from 3 to 7 p.m. April 30 in the gallery. The public is welcome.
A senior art exhibit is required of all art majors at Eureka College.
Wessels will exhibit constructed pieces that blend painting, photography and found objects. The pieces will depict great inventions and industries of the past that started as new ideas but were quickly replaced by newer technology, Wessels said.
“These works flirt with the border between two-dimensional works and sculptural entities,” Wessels said, “and they are created from my own interaction and nostalgia attached to the inventions being depicted.”
Wessels is a daughter of Steven and Marcia Wessels of Waterman. She is majoring in art and biology at Eureka College. She is a 2006 graduate of Indian Creek High School.
The Eureka College art gallery is located on the third floor of Burgess Memorial Hall, 300 E. College Ave. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment by calling (309) 467-6866.
