Eureka College Professors Receive Research Grants

Barr, whitson & wright secure funds

Three Eureka College professors have received summer research grants from Eureka College President J. David Arnold through the President’s Fund for the Advancement of Learning, Service and Leadership.

The grants of up to $3,000 each support and encourage scholarly activity in faculty members’ respective fields.

The grant recipients are assistant professor of English Jessica Barr, professor of English Kathy Whitson and assistant professor of religion William Wright.

Barr will use the grant to study a 14th century manuscript at the Royal Library of Belgium, Brussels, for her project that explores the writings of medieval women mystics.

Whitson will use the grant to collect information about the social history of Grainger County, Tenn., for fiction and nonfiction works she is writing.

Wright will use the grant to conduct research at the Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago for a book he is writing about the theology of salvation in the writings of John Calvin.

The Fund for the Advancement of Learning, Service and Leadership “supports extraordinary faculty projects and initiatives as part of their role as teacher-scholars at a liberal arts college,” said President Arnold.
