Dynamics of Appalachian Church Community Topic of EC Presentation
April 25 - 3:15 pm
Eureka College English professor Kathy Whitson will present “A Preliminary Analysis of the Dynamics of an Appalachian Church Community” at 3:15 p.m. April 25 in the Gammon Room in Melick Library at Eureka College. The free, public presentation is part of the Faculty Colloquium Series.
The presentation will offer an exploratory analysis of the social relationships in a small Baptist church in the Tennessee mountains. Whitson’s research included primary documents, including 165 years of church records, and interviews with contemporary members of the still-existing church. The presentation is part of Whitson’s ongoing research of the history and culture of her ancestors who migrated out of Appalachia more than 100 years ago.
The presentation is the last of five colloquiums by Eureka College faculty members this academic year.
