EC art show to explore shoe-owners’ memories

April 1 - May 14

Judith Kramer of Morton will present her senior art show titled “Sole Memories” April 1 through May 14 in the Burgess Hall Art Gallery at Eureka College. An artist’s reception will be from 4 to 9 p.m. April 1 in the gallery. The public is welcome.

Kramer’s exhibit showcases a collection of shoes and incorporates sculpted toes, evoking the memories of those who have worn the shoes.  Her inspirations are derived from the surrealist movement, specifically René Magritte and Salvador Dali.  The idea of sculpting toes onto shoes sprung from an imagined conversation Kramer had with Magritte in reference to his painting “Philosophy in the Boudoir.”

“Unusual shoes from a diverse group of eras, cultures and ages dominate the landscape of my exhibit, as the questions of who, what and where the shoes have been are raised,” Kramer said.

Kramer is the daughter of Margaret Kramer of Woodstock and the late Ralph Kramer. She is majoring in art at Eureka College. A senior art show is required of all art majors.

The art gallery is located on the third floor of Burgess Memorial Hall, 300 E. College Ave. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment by calling (309) 467-6866.
