Newt Gingrich to speak at Eureka College commencement
May 14 - rinker amphitheater
Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich will be the keynote speaker at Eureka College’s commencement ceremony May 14 in Rinker Amphitheater.
“Newt Gingrich’s commencement address to the Class of 2011 will be the finale to our successful year-long Ronald Reagan Centennial celebration,” said Eureka College President J. David Arnold. “We are delighted to host a national leader who recognizes and identifies with the leadership legacy of Eureka’s most famous graduate.”
Gingrich was elected to Congress in 1978, serving the 6th Congressional District of Georgia for 20 years. He was Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1999 and is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994.
Gingrich has published 23 books, including 13 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best-sellers. Recent books include “Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny,” “Valley Forge” and “To Save America.”
Gingrich and his wife, Callista, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include “America at Risk,” “Nine Days that Changed the World” and “Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage.”
Gingrich is co-chairman of the National Commission for Quality Long-Term Care to study ways to provide quality care for the nation’s aging population. He was co-chairman of the
Task Force on the United Nations to reform the U.N., and he served on the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century. He is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint War Fighting course for major generals at the National Defense University.
Gingrich holds a doctorate in history from Tulane University. He formerly taught history and environmental studies at West Georgia College.
Due to space limitations, the commencement ceremony will not be open to the public.
