EC Chamber Singers to perform in premiere of ‘Reagan of Illinois’ musical composition

february 19 - Historic dixon theatre - dixon, il

The Eureka College Chamber Singers will perform in the world premiere of a musical composition recognizing Ronald Reagan’s Midwestern roots.

The singers will accompany the Dixon Municipal Band conducted by Mark Bressler in the second movement of “Reagan of Illinois” by composer David Holsinger.  Performances are set for 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Historic Dixon Theatre, Dixon.

The song includes narration from portions of Reagan’s autobiography “An American Life” that address his childhood in Dixon and college years in Eureka.  The Eureka College Alma Mater and Fight Song are interwoven into the music.

The composition was commissioned by the city of Dixon to recognize the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth on Feb. 6, 2011. Holsinger, a conducting and composition teacher and conductor of the wind ensemble at Lee University, Cleveland, Tenn., was selected in a national search.

The concert will feature performances by several choirs followed by the approximately half-hour-long “Reagan of Illinois.”
