Ottawa Woman Receives Steven W. Rigazio Scholarship

Kourtney Ewald of Ottawa has received the full-tuition Steven W. Rigazio Scholarship from Eureka College.

The daughter of Kerry and Bonnie Ewald of Ottawa will enter Eureka College this fall to study English with teacher certification. She plans to become a high school English teacher.

Ewald is a 2011 graduate of Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society, Sigma Kappa Delta English honor society, the Honors Program, TEACH club and the basketball team. She was a peer tutor in the writing center and a volunteer at the Ed’Venture summer day camp. She is a volunteer at the Illinois Valley Public Action to Deliver homeless shelter and the YMCA, both in Ottawa.

 

The Steven W. Rigazio Scholarship was established in 2002 and is awarded to one student each year transferring to Eureka College upon graduation from Illinois Valley Community College. It is renewable for a second consecutive year of study at Eureka College.

The scholarship honors the memory of the Oglesby native who graduated from IVCC in 1974 and Eureka College in 1976. He was president of Nevada Power Co. He died of ALS in 2001 at age 47.

 

Criteria for the scholarship include good academic standing, good character, positive attitude, financial need and the recommendation of the president of IVCC. For more information, contact the office of admissions and financial aid at Eureka College at 888-4EUREKA.
