GOVERNING COUNCILS

The Eureka College Student Senate is organized to assure oversight of campus organizations and is designed to work with faculty, staff and administration on bettering the social and academic environment on campus. Responsible to the student body, the membership of the Senate includes class presidents and senators elected at large.

The Student Allocations Agency is a functioning agency, independent of the Student Senate which is responsible for appropriating the funds that are collected through the Student Activities Fee revenues. The Student Allocations Agency administers the account, approves the budgets submitted by organizations, and assumes responsibility for the management of the fund. Membership includes class vice-presidents and members-at-large elected by the student body.

Greek Council at Eureka College functions to create an atmosphere that will help develop and maintain good relations between independents and Greeks and among Greeks themselves. The Greek Council also sponsors programs that aid the development of its member organizations and the individual members. It is also responsible for helping promote the Greek system and providing service to the Campus Community. The Greek Council is composed of two representatives from each of the active fraternities and sororities, both national and local, on this campus.

ACADEMIC ORGANIZATIONS  AND HONOR SOCIETIES

Alpha Chi is a national junior and senior honor society.

Alpha Psi Omega is the national honorary dramatic fraternity. Its purpose is to enable members to develop dramatic talent and the art of acting to cultivate a taste for the best in the drama.

Business Society promotes business knowledge to its members while serving the community, to develop vocational and career supportive skills, and to provide opportunities for students in business or business related fields to understand their future working environment.

College Bowl provides competition on the state, regional, and national level to students interest in Academic Quiz Bowl competition. Eureka College's team has been recognized as highly competitive and is avilable to all students regardless of major or interest.

Communications Club provides a forum for interaction between students, faculty, and practitioners interested in the study, criticism, research, training, and application of artistic, humanistic, and scientific principles of communication.

Education Association helps to prepare education majors for a career in education.

Pi Gamma Mu is Eureka College's International Honor Society in Social Science.

Psychology and Sociology Club encourages, stimulates, and maintains excellence in scholarship in the individual members in all fields, particularly in sychology and sociology, and to advance the sciences of psychology and sociology.

Sigma Tau Delta is an active English honor society (National) on the Eureka College campus. Each spring this chapter sponsors the College's creative writing contest open to all students.

Sigma Zeta is a national honorary science society.

RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS

Campus Crusade For Christ International is an inter-denominational Christian campus ministry with many full-time staff members on many of our nation's major college campuses throughout the world.

Disciples on Campus or DOC is a student group affiliated with the Disciples of Christ denomination.

Newman Center is a center for students of the Catholic faith.

Individual religious organizations are organized under the direction of the College Chaplain. Periodically, according to interest, such organizations as Baptist Student Organization, Catholic Youth Fellowship, Disciples Student Organization, etc. are organized on campus.

SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS

Admissions Ambassadors are students who volunteer time to assist the Office of Admissions by providing a unique perspective to visiting students and their families. The volunteers represent Eureka College through activities such as conducting campus tour, hosting prospecitve students overnight, calling in phone-a-thons, and assisting with Open Houses.

The Campus Activities Board is a voluntary organization of interested students which provides input regarding social activities on campus. Dances, movies, mini-concerts, concerts, and special events are planned on the basis of these students suggestions. Other groups, supplement, complement, and coordinate student activities in association with C.A.B.

The Art and Lecture series is planned and governed by the Arts and Lecture Board, an organization of students appointed by the President of the Student Body, and one faculty member, appointed by the faculty's Committee on Committees. This organization strives to bring nationally-known educational and cultural events to the campus of Eureka College.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing from the face of the earth. Habitat is world wide, with projects in over sixteen foreign countries and 350 cities in the U.S. It seeks to work in partnership with the poor to give them a simple, decent place to live.

P.R.I.D.E. (People Responsible for the Incorporation and Development of Excellence)
is an official standing committee of the Student Senate. Its objectives include: improving student-faculty relations, creating new forms of volunteerism and service, recognizing academic improvement, and improving the physical appearance of the College.

THE ARTS AND MEDIA

Elm is a magazine of original writing which was created and staffed by students under the advisement of interested faculty members.

The Pegasus staff provides the Eureka College community with a weekly paper that includes news, sports, features, editorials and entertainment. The Pegasus strives to represent the entire College community, so the newspaper items reflect the views and activities of students, faculty, administration and alumni. The Pegasus is also dedicated to reporting news from other colleges that affect college students.

The Prism is the student yearbook, created to capture the memories and events of campus life at Eureka College. All interested students are encouraged to become involved as Prism staff members.

The College Chorale, Madrigal Singers, and Community Chorus are open to students who have an interest in musical expression. The groups perform locally and the Chorale travels throughout the country each spring on its annual tour. Auditions are required for the College Chorale and the Madrigal Singers.

Theatre - A number of theatrical productions are presented each year, including performances directed by students who are theatre majors. A student need not be a theatre major to participate in these productions.

The Art Club is a group a student interested in the arts in and around campus.

SPECIAL INTEREST ORGANIZATIONS

The Cheerleading Squad is organized to promote and uphold school spirit, to develop a sense of good sportsmanship among the students and members of the squad, and to improve relationships between schools during all athletic events.

The Education Association is an organization for education majors to help prepare them for a career in education. Students and faculty work together in the Art Club to increase the campus' awareness of the Arts. They sponsor speakers, take field trips to museums and meet to discuss matters of interest in the Art field.

The Pre-Law Society endeavors to inform the college community about legal issues. They organize monthly forums and assist Pre-Law students in pursuing their careers.

College Republicans serves a dual purpose of being both a sounding board and an action committee for the pursuit of conservative ideals by young adults on a local, state and national level. The College Republican chapter sponsors campus activities, such as forums, speakers, and films, attending political rallies, fund-raisers, and more around the state. The chapter represents Eureka College at the State Convention, keeping in close contact with other chapters throughout the state and the nation.

Black Student Union of Eureka College is a cultural organization that focuses on bringing information about Black culture and experience to the campus and community. The Black Student Union also provides information on career and academic opportunities that exist at Eureka College and elsewhere. It is not an organization that exists only for Black students, but rather, it exists for all who are interested in gaining knowledge about Black culture and other cultures. The Black Student Union overall promotes positive values and goals that help Eureka College progress to an ideal diverse setting.

The Democrats of Eureka College exist to promote discussion of world affairs, national issues, state news, political views and social conflicts. This organization sponsors debates, forums, and other public presentations where political issues and opinions can be presented. Membership is open to all Eureka College students.

The International Club promotes an awareness of international issues and different cultures and creates a sense of diversity and community on campus. The club is committed to serving the community and providing support for international students.

Nu Tau Epsilon is an organization committed to meeting the unique needs of and providing support for non-traditional students.

Other on-campus activities include: Circle K, EC Dance Team, Con Brio, The Alignment, and Up Till Dawn.
