Have you read any good books lately? Nominations for the First-Year Experience Program’s 2014-15 common reading book are now welcome from the Eureka College Community through Friday, Dec. 13. An on-line submission form can be found on the FYE website below. The 2014-15 nominations are for the third annual common reading book. The 2013-2014 book was “The Other Wes Moore,” by Wes Moore. The current common reading book is “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” by Rebecca Skloot.

Eureka College’s FYE Common Reading Program is based upon the assumption that faculty, staff, and students are all part of the teaching-learning mission of Eureka College. Through this reading program, the entire Eureka College community has the opportunity to become engaged in a common intellectual experience through campus-wide discussions and year-long programming.

All first-year students entering in the fall of 2014 will be asked to purchase, read, and prepare the newly selected common reading book for both formal and informal discussions that begin during Welcome Week and extend through the semester through learning activities in First-Year Seminar. Through these conversations and learning activities, students are welcomed into the Eureka College learning community.

Following thorough evaluations by faculty, staff and students on the review committee, a short of list of top contenders will be submitted to the First-Year Seminar Instructors and administrators for final selection.
