Maroon & Gold – Recapping February 2014

A Note From Home…

The Silver Lining:

Has this long winter been getting you down? I was doing pretty well until Friday afternoon, January 31 when the college closed due to blizzard conditions and freezing rain, causing the Alumni Office and Student Leadership Ambassador team to cancel the much anticipated Leadership Connections Conference scheduled to start that evening. So many months of work and no gratification of seeing it all come together was very disheartening. But now, weeks past the event, I have a renewed excitement for the conference. The cancellation was the dark cloud. The opportunity to re-evaluate the event with the student leadership and move the weekend to a more weather friendly time of year, that is the silver lining. Silver linings are unexpected blessings from occurances in our lives that might leave us disappointed or feeling like our efforts are unnoticed. But standing back and evaluating the dark clouds in our lives help us to find the good that occurs because of it.

As we all anticipate springtime, there is so much to look forward to! And the Alumni Office is working hard to create great opportunities for you to return to campus. I have three for you to mark on your calendars right now for 2014: Alumni Weekend – April 11-13; Homecoming – October 3-4; and The recently rescheduled Alumni Leadership Connections Conference – November 14-15. I am excited….ARE YOU?
