A Note From Home…
Celebration and Sorrow: Doing Life Together

As I reflect on the month of October I can only define it as a month of great celebration and significant sorrow for our college community.

Homecoming was a spectacular weekend with hundreds (maybe thousands) of alumni returning to celebrate all things Eureka and a big win by the Red Devils over Westminster. Dedications of the Burklund House, Owen Conference Room, McKinzie Field Wall, and the Rinker Gateway Arch along with the annual parade, awesome alumni tailgate lunch and post game party at the Chanticleer we just so FUN! Thanks to all of you who returned home to celebrate.

The post homecoming celebration continued the following weekend, when more than a dozen alumni and friends spent the weekend in Las Vegas enjoying the hospitality of Bradley Kenny ’89 and his family for his annual company party at Craig P. Kenny and Associates, a spectacular Cirque Du Soliel show and Sunday Brunch at the House of Blues.

We also experienced great loss this month as we bid farewell of a special member of our college community. Señora Julia Colorado was an important part of our community for many years. She was special professor woven into the fabric of Eureka’s great heritage. Her beautiful smile, warm spirit and genuine interest in her students and colleagues is a common thread that appears in this special tapestry created by the individuals that have invested themselves here. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

In celebration and in grief, the Eureka College community displays the depth of relationships that are created and nurtured here ‘neath the elms. Life has its highs and lows. Once again I am thankful to experience them among students, faculty, staff and alumni that share the special Eureka College bond.

Dr. Loren Logsdon, Professor Emeritus of English, has captured the spirit of Eureka College history in a special project he fondly calls the "Studs Terkel Project." The project is a collection of alumni memories and stories which weave a rich tapestry of the Eureka College experience during the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.
