Former Caterpillar Inc. chairman and CEO James Owens will discuss “U.S. Competitiveness: Free Enterprise and the Global Economy” at 7 p.m. April 23 in Pritchard Theatre at Eureka College. A question-and-answer period will follow. The presentation is open to the public. Admission is $5. For reservations, call (309) 467-6319.

“As a corporate leader and economic scholar, and at a time when confidence in the economy, the government and the future is lagging, Jim Owens will offer insights into reclaiming America’s world prominence, economic prosperity and optimism,” said Eureka College President J. David Arnold.

In 2011, Owens was the first Executive in Residence at Eureka College. He shared his experiences and perspective on a broad range of topics during class visits, public presentations and one‐on‐one meetings with students enrolled in business administration, accounting, economics and organizational leadership classes, Arnold said.

Owens has a doctorate in economics from North Carolina State University. He joined Caterpillar as a corporate economist in 1972. He was chairman and CEO from 2004 until his retirement in 2010.
