String Orchestra for Grades 5-8:
Instrumental Coaching, Classes, and Fun!
June 11–15, 2018
PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 1st!
Be a part of the Summer Arts Festival at idyllic Eureka College!
Junior Strings is a day camp for younger, less advanced string players, who have completed grades 5 through 8. The music we play will challenge campers just enough – offering them a focused but fun experience, leading to a successful final concert! Rehearsals, sectionals, and classes will zero in on fundamentals of tone production and left-hand technique, and music’s basics: rhythm, intonation, and beginning theory. Everyone will grow in what they know and can do – as individuals and in ensemble playing.
David Commanday, Summer Arts Director, Conductor, Cellist, Director of Instrumental Performance at Eureka College, and Artistic Director of the Heartland Festival Orchestra. Maestro Commanday has a distinguished career performing with both professional and student orchestras. He is currently Music Director of the Central Illinois Youth Symphony and Conductor of the Young Peoples Symphonic Orchestra at Webster University, St. Louis.
