What to Expect at Eureka College Orientation
Jack Cascone
Coming to campus for the first time as a future student can sometimes be intimidating. You’re no longer a high school senior that’s shopping around at different colleges. You’ve been accepted, you’ve signed your letter of intent and you’ve made a $200 deposit. Now, how do you keep yourself from feeling nervous?
We have a program in place at Eureka College to help you navigate through all of the preliminary work that needs to be done before you start classes in August. The Eureka Experience: Orientation program is a half-day event that all new students are required to attend prior to starting classes. At this session you will meet fellow students, register for classes and learn about campus resources.
The Office of Student Life at Eureka College is offering four different sessions from 8 a.m. until noon so that you can come to whichever is most convenient for you. The sessions will be held on June 8, June 21, July 16 and July 27 of 2018. If you are the first person in your immediate family to go to college, it is recommended that you attend the June 21 session.
Prior to registering for any session, all new EC students must watch six pre-Orientation videos so that you will come to campus with some knowledge of campus resources. The videos will also walk you through the process of filling out a few forms that are required before you attend Experience Eureka.
During Experience Eureka you will also attend workshops about every major aspect of Eureka College. Workshops include housing and residence life, athletics, career development, Welcome Week and student organizations, bookstore overview and what it takes to earn a degree at a liberal arts institution. Finally, and most excitingly, all students will register for their Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 classes.
Orientation is an extremely important event for new students. You will get a feel for what campus is going to be like and you will meet some of the other students that you will spend the next four years with.
