Eureka College’s 2024 Student Lincoln Laureate
Each fall, an outstanding student is selected by Eureka College to receive the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award. The student is then recognized as a Lincoln Laureate. Eureka College’s 2024 Student Lincoln Laureate is Hayden Skaggs.
The Lincoln Laureate award celebrates outstanding students for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.
Hayden is a senior at Eureka College, double majoring in sociology/psychology and philosophy/religion, with a minor in political science.
“It was not something I was thinking about since I was focused on my remarks for convocation,” stated Hayden. “So, it was a shock but definitely a nice surprise”.
Hayden is active in student senate, president of the Disciples of Christ student group, and works for the Eureka Christian Church.
After Hayden graduates, he plans to go to divinity school, majoring in divinity and social work. He hopes to attend the University of Chicago.
Hayden credits his parents for part of his inspiration. “Both my parents have been leading parts in my life when focusing on leadership and justice,” Hayden said. “On the religion side my dad is a minister and has been the minister at my church my entire life which has been a big influence on me.”
