Eureka College was founded by abolitionists from Kentucky who were members of a religious movement known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and were committed to providing young people a broad, liberal education. These pioneers believed in an education infused with values as a basis for leadership. Chartered by the Illinois Legislature in 1855, Eureka was the first college in the state and third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis. Eureka College was designated by the National Park Service as a Campus Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places in June 2010.

National First Generation College Student Day

The campus community is invited to help us celebrate our First Gen community (along with colleges nationwide) in two ways:

1. Attend the National First Generation College Student Day Brunch on Tuesday, November 8th from 12-1pm in the Terrill Rooms. The purpose of this event is to recognize the resilience and narratives of our first generation community at Eureka. Enjoy lunch, win prizes, celebrate our first gen community, and hear from our dynamic keynote speaker, Mr. Joshua Gunn, the CEO of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce. This event is open to all students, faculty and staff members. Lunch will be served around 12:15pm and will be available on a first come first serve basis.

2. Reserve your exclusive "First Gen" t-shirt and share what it means to you to be FIRST in your family. Only complete this form if you are "First Gen". The deadline is Friday, October 28th, at noon.
