Eureka College was founded by abolitionists from Kentucky who were members of a religious movement known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and were committed to providing young people a broad, liberal education. These pioneers believed in an education infused with values as a basis for leadership. Chartered by the Illinois Legislature in 1855, Eureka was the first college in the state and third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis. Eureka College was designated by the National Park Service as a Campus Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places in June 2010.

Come join us in Becker Auditorium on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. for our 70th Annual William Thomas Jackson Science Lecture. This year, guest speaker, Chris Pfefferkorn, will discuss The Art and Science of Animal Conservation. Pfefferkorn, is the President and CEO of the Birmingham Zoo and has spent his career dedicated to animal welfare and conservation devoting himself to conservation and education intitiatives including the Chipangali Large Carnivore Project in Zimbabwe. Chris earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Eureka College.
