Alan Atkins, originally from Birmingham, Alabama, is an Illinois-based artist. He received his BFA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his MFA from Illinois State University. Alan's work highlights and celebrates Black History and Culture while challenging preconceived notions about the Black Community. With its use of cardboard and feeling of immediacy, Alan's work references protest art. His Exhibition PORTALS highlights some of his previous work and shows his newer explorations of Afro-Surrealism and windows into intimate moments.

His reception and artist talk will be on March 21 at 6 pm in the Burgess Hall Memorial Gallery.

The exhibition runs until March 29.
