Congratulations to Eureka College Radio and Television from Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards!
Eureka College sophomore Matthew Swan was named the Best Sports Director in college television at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards, announced Saturday, February 21st, at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel in New York City. Swan is in his second year heading up sports coverage for ECTV, the online television station operated by the Communication and Media Studies program at the College. Swan was one of three finalists, including students from the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communication and the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines.
Between ECTV and WXEC “EC 103.1”, Eureka College’s student operated radio station, the College had been nominated in six categories. Other student nominees included recent Eureka Communication and Media Studies graduates Kareem Burnett and Andrew Schulte, along with senior Liv Hardin-Nieri and sophomore Andrew Danehl.
“Matthew is at the top my list of students who work hard and constantly seek to grow their skills,” said Dr. John Malone, WXEC/ECTV General Manager. “He will go far in this business solely in the strength of his ambition, perseverance, and grit. I love to see our Eureka students compete successfully on the national stage against some tough competition from much larger schools with rich histories in media education. While I’m also thrilled for recent graduates and our seniors to be recognized for their dedication and skill, I am exceedingly proud when sophomores and Matthew and Drew excel so early in their careers here.”
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, established in 1940, is an organization with a membership of over one thousand non-profit, education-affiliated radio stations and webcasters. In addition to providing support for establishing and operating noncommercial radio and webcast operations, it frequently represents its members with FCC negotiations, copyright issues, and litigation.
