Eureka College was founded by abolitionists from Kentucky who were members of a religious movement known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and were committed to providing young people a broad, liberal education. These pioneers believed in an education infused with values as a basis for leadership. Chartered by the Illinois Legislature in 1855, Eureka was the first college in the state and third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis. Eureka College was designated by the National Park Service as a Campus Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places in June 2010.

Eureka College Hosts 37th Annual Run with Reagan 5K in November

EUREKA, Ill. (Oct. 9, 2026) - Eureka College invites runners, walkers, and families from across Central Illinois, including Peoria, Bloomington, and surrounding communities, to lace up their sneakers and step into history for its 37th Annual Run with Reagan on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Red Devil Cross Country & Distance team, in partnership with the Eureka College Alumni and Development team, will host the annual Fall of the Wall 5K, 1-Mile Walk, and Kids Dash on Eureka’s historic campus.

This year’s event marks the 37th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, honoring the legacy of Eureka College alumnus and 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan. Proceeds directly support Eureka College student-athletes and the Reagan scholarship.

"This 5K is more than just a race. The Run with Reagan is an opportunity to walk, jog, or run through a pivotal chapter of American and global history," said Arto Woodley, Eureka College Vice President for Advancement. "Participants moving along the route will encounter powerful Reagan quotes that highlight how his formative years right here at Eureka College helped shape the principles that guided his leadership during the fall of the Berlin Wall. We are excited to bring our community together to celebrate this legacy, support our students, and highlight Eureka's unique place in history."

Event Schedule

7:00 a.m. – Registration & Packet Pickup (At the Starting Line)

8:30 a.m. – 400m or 1.2-Mile Kids Dash (Ages 12 & under)

8:45 a.m. – 5K Race & 1-Mile Walk (Untimed)

The Historic Route

The course begins at the corner of Reagan Drive and Burgess Street. Participants will complete a scenic three-loop square along Burgess Street, James Street, Dickinson Drive, and Reagan Drive before finishing on College Avenue—just steps away from Eureka College’s Peace Garden, home to an authentic piece of the Berlin Wall.

Registration Details & Pricing

5K Race: $25 (Family Discount: Maximum $80 for 4 or more registrants from the same household)

1-Mile Walk: $20

Kids Dash (400m or 1 Mile): $10

Participant Perks: All registered participants receive an official race T-shirt (must register by Oct. 27 to guarantee shirt size) and a free pancake breakfast following the race.

Breakfast is also open to race spectators and guests for purchase:

Adults: $7.50

Children (Ages 7–12): $6.00

Children (Ages 6 & under): Free

Awards

5K awards will be presented to the top overall male and female runners, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age divisions: 14 & Under, 15–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+.

Parking & Logistics

Parking is available at the East Burgess gravel lot or the Reagan Athletic Center parking lot. Registration and packet pickup will be stationed directly at the starting line.
