Students will work in teams and individually to engage in problem-solving both in and out of the classroom. Experiential learning includes opportunities to apply knowledge and conceptual understanding to real-world problems and situations.

Our Unique Education Programs: We offer different education programs depending on what direction in the world of education you want to take.

Elementary Education: You will be doing fieldwork in 1-6 Grade Settings. Once you become a senior, you will get the opportunity to become an intern. Once in the senior level field placement is completed through a year-long internship model. This strengthens the collaboration and partnership between the candidate and the cooperating teacher. Education Seminar during Student Teaching placement allows candidates to learn about critical educational topics, gain interviewing skills, and garner peer mentoring and support.

Secondary Education: The Secondary Education major at Eureka College is tailored for students who aspire to teach in high school classrooms (Grades 9–12). To complete this program, students also choose a second major in one of three subject areas: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, or Social Science with a focus in History.

Elementary Education/Special Education Double Major: After four years, students can graduate, be licensed to teach in elementary and special education settings, and hold a double major. Fieldwork will be focused on grades K-22. Pursuing this double major will allow you to be an Elementary Education teacher (1-6), a Special Education teacher (K-22), and/or a Paraeducator.

Middle Grades Education: The Middle Grades Education major is ideal for students aiming to teach Grades 5–8. You’ll choose from four subject areas—English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Science—for your primary content focus. While one content area endorsement is required, you also have the option to pursue additional endorsements to expand your teaching qualifications.

Music Education: The major in Vocal Music Education is designed for those students who plan to teach vocal music (Grades K-12). Music Education majors are required to pass the piano proficiency exam before beginning their student teaching experience (EDU464). In addition, students must participate in a music ensemble for 0–1 credit each semester, except the student teaching semester.
