Empowering Women to Defend Themselves

4:00pm - 5:00pm

This exhibition explores the design process of physical objects through the creation of three self defense weapons each designed specifically for women. Observing the lack of resources within women’s self defense inspired the idea to create a handheld, nonlethal weapon that is easy to use and carry. Each potential solution was sketched, 3D modeled, and 3D printed. The designs were then taken to real women and their feedback was incorporated into each product. By the end of the process three weapons had been created, each fulfilling a different self defense need. One does not stand out as superior, but rather all three stand out as unique solutions to a very real problem. After all, the goal of the product design is to create solutions to problems people face every day.
