International Travel Scholarships

Eureka College has the following scholarship funds to support student travel to other countries:

What can the funds be used for?

Scholarships from the Straw Fund can be used to offset program and travel-related costs for international credit-bearing coursework or international mission/service-learning trips.

Who is eligible to receive the funds?

Full-time Eureka College students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible to receive scholarships from the Straw Fund. Students must also be in good financial and disciplinary standing with the college.

Proposed travel cannot occur in the student’s first semester at Eureka College or after the student has graduated.

How much funding is available?

Multiple Straw awards of up to $4,000 are issued annually. The amount of each award is determined by overall demand and individual student need.

When do I apply?

If you intend to travel during the spring semester you should submit your application for the Straw scholarship by October 1 the previous fall.

If you intend to travel during summer or fall you should submit your application for the Straw scholarship by March 1 the previous spring.

What can the funds be used for?

The Colorado Scholarship can be used to offset program and travel-related costs for international credit-bearing coursework that emphasizes second language study.  Preference will be given to applicants planning to study Spanish.

Who is eligible to receive the funds?

Full-time Eureka College students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 are eligible for the Colorado Scholarship. Students must also be in good financial and disciplinary standing with the college. Students must have earned a minimum of 30 credit hours to apply, and travel must occur before graduation.

How much funding is there?

One award of approximately $3,000 is issued annually.

When do I apply?

Applications for the Colorado Scholarship are only accepted during the spring semester and must be submitted by March 1.

To apply for either of these scholarships, please complete the application below. The Scholarship Committee will determine which funds, if any, your trip is eligible to receive. The fall application deadline is October 1 and the spring application deadline is March 1. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee that you will receive scholarship funds, which are limited. Depending on the number of applicants, the Scholarship Committee reserves the right to ask for additional evidence of eligibility (such as letters of recommendation or applicant interviews). Preference will be given to applicants who have not had, nor anticipate having, institutionally-funded travel experience. The Scholarship Committee recommends that you complete a FAFSA if you would like to be considered for these awards, since financial need is taken into account. The Scholarship committee reserves the right to lower the award cap in years when applicant demand is high.
